No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
After the 2008 Obama election I wanted to stay in touch with a few dozen key volunteers in my area so I would send an occasional email about some call to action or event that was coming up. After awhile I thought they might want to see some of the research I was seeing as I investigated a specific legislative bill or process. By the Spring of 2009 I was sending out a weekly calendar of political events across Southern Nevada to about 100 people. A year later, the calendar had morphed into a full-fledged resource containing political, municipal, cultural and non-profit events taking place in 20 cities and towns across Southern Nevada. It also contained important announcements about issues affecting our neighborhoods, schools, calls for volunteers and more. At this stage, the calendar had grown too large to send in the body of an email and became a pdf attachment instead. In June 2011, some of our northern neighbors were asking to have their information included in the calendar. What a great idea! Still, how to go about it? By this time, the distribution list had already grown to more than 5,000 and the files were so large that several ISPs wouldn't deliver them. If I added any more data....... Hence, The Blue Nevadan. Poke around and stay awhile. Let me know what you think. Let me know what you want. Let me know what works and what doesn't. Let me know if I can come for dinner sometime. One more thing: if you've landed here by mistake while looking for Republican or Tea Party activities, we suggest you simply Google whatever it is you're looking for; the search is bound to bring up any number of sources offering whatever the lie of the day is. |
